Dedicated to the memory of David Salt

This site is a tribute to David, a dearly loved man, who touched many lives. It's a celebration of his indomitable spirit and kindness: ever curious, always finding joy, always trying to help others - a true polymath and family man.

Despite nearly 30 years living with young-onset Parkinson's, David was determined to live as full a life as possible for as long as possible. We thought he was indestructible. He wasn't, but our memories of him, and the strength he has instilled within us, will be.

If you’d like to send a tribute to David, we’re asking that donations be made here to Parkinson’s UK. You can also leave messages and memories here, or on his Facebook memorial page.

Memories, stories and photos help to remind us how lucky we have been.

Parable of Immortality
I am standing upon the platform.

A steam train at my side whistles and sighs in the morning breeze,
and starts gracefully down the line.
He is an object of beauty and strength,
And I stand and watch until at length his smoke hangs like a speck of white cloud
just where the land and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says, "There, he’s gone!"
"Gone where?" Gone from my sight—that is all.
He is just as large in boiler and piston and tender
as he was when he left my side,

and he is just as able to bear his load of living freight
to the station for which he is destined.
His diminished size is in me, not in him.

And just at the moment
when someone at my side says, "There, he’s gone!"
there are other eyes that are watching for him coming;

and other voices ready to take up the glad shout:
"Here he comes!"

And that is—“dying”.
